This past weekend my good friend, Fabio, invited me and some others to his house near San Piero a Sieve just north of Florence and in the heart of the Mugello, which was the original home of the Medici Family. We headed out Sunday morning loaded with all of the makings of a fantastic countryside BBQ. Setting up in the garden, we spent hours around the table enjoying each others company as well as some tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms followed by grilled pork, sausages and steaks.
After getting our fill, we decided on one of my favorite Italian post-meal past times
la passeggiata, a walk, in order to digest. I absolutely love the passeggiata because you absolutely never know what you're getting yourself into. A passeggiata could last 20 minutes and take you around the neighborhood piazza, or it could last hours and include stopping for
divestivos such as limoncello or grappa. This passeggiata was a new one for me... We spent over an hour hiking through the woods, jumping over natural springs, climbing over barbed wire and even coming face-to-face with about 20 horses.

When we returned back to the house and were getting ready to go, Fabio asked if I would like any fresh milk from his farmer friend, Roberto. I just recently tried fresh fresh milk from the farmers market the week before and loved it, so of course I said yes. We hopped in the car and went on a drive through the countryside finally arriving at the dairy far. It was a stunning setting during sunset and we were greeted by about 80 hungry and mooing dairy cows.

We waited while Roberto prepped the cows for milking and watched the entire process - from cow to bottle. Utterly amazing!
